CRC is here to assist you in focusing on the physical wellness of your recovery process both in our centers, and at home with your friends and family.
The best way to help your body feel better is by putting good fuel in it! This is no surprise to most people, but there are certain foods that can help your body to feel better, energize you, and help fight of infection with it’s immune boosting power. Often time’s energy is a big issue during the recovery process. Nutritionist Brooke Cordray has provided a list of foods that will help you boost your energy and keep you on track:

  1. Nuts- Nuts are a good source of protein and carbohydrates. These play a role in helping you feel energized. Almonds, walnuts, pecans, cashews, Brazil nuts, hazelnuts, chestnuts, pistachios, macadamia nuts and pine nuts are all great options when adding to your diet.
  2. Bananas- The sugar and starches in banana’s can be easily processed by the body for fuel. Rich in vitamins A and C, bananas will help increase energy naturally.
  3. Beans- Beans are full of complex carbohydrates which provide energy for the muscles and brain. Beans also contain high levels of protein, which also create energy in the body.
  4. Healthy Fats- Coconut oil, olive oil, flax oil and butter are all good options. If allergic to dairy try ghee. Ghee is a clarified butter without potential allergic dairy components. Healthy fats are what help to store energy in the body.
  5. High Quality Protein- Proteins are the main component in muscle tissue and help to build strength. Eggs, lean meats, and fish are the best source of protein. Turkey, chicken, bison and lean meats such as grass-fed beef are all great options. Fish such as salmon contains vitamin D and omega-3’s which are also healthy fats.
  6. Vegetables- Go for the dark leafy greens, broccoli, zucchini and squashes.
  7. Salt- Unprocessed sea salt such as Celtic salt are excellent for the adrenal glands which helps generate the body’s stress hormones. Stress                   causes adrenal fatigue to help boost adrenals. Celtic salt supplies 82 trace minerals needed by the human body for optimal health.
  8. Here are a few other supplements and foods that will be great additions to your diet.
  • Spirulina powder can provide significant positive differences in energy
  • Kelp/sea vegetables can dramatically boost energy, they contain high amounts of iodine a mineral that makes a person feel more energetic
  • Avocados provide energy and high levels of healthy fats

Energy makes us feel great and stay active, but prevention is also key part of recovery. Immune booting foods are crucial to keeping healthy in your journey. Here are some great foods that you can add to your immune boosting diet:

  1. Oats- Oat fiber has molecules that help immune cells detect bacteria allowing them to work more quickly in fighting infection.
  2. Broccoli- Broccoli helps mucus membranes form effective barriers to repel environmental threats to metabolism.
  3. Blueberries- These gems have beneficial effects on cell tissue and digestive and cardiovascular health, which improves immunity.
  4. Green tea- An antioxidant in green tea appears to inhibit cancer and bacteria replication. It is also associated with cardiovascular health and kidney and liver protection, all of which boost immunity.
  5. Lentils- These are true super foods. Their fiber, iron, complex carbs, magnesium, potassium, calcium and zinc make them an excellent low-fat nutrient dense protein source.
  6. Salmon- Salmon is a great source of Omega-3’s. Omega-3 is an amino acid that immune cells need.
  7. Yogurt- Yogurt is also a great source of amino acid. It has beneficial bacteria that boost immunity by improving digestive health.
  8. Almonds- Almonds are a beneficial monounsaturated fat that also contain iron, magnesium and protein.
  9. Pumpkin seeds-Pumpkin seeds have zinc and boost immunity quality. High iron content aids cardiovascular efficiency to speed nutrients to their destinations within the body.
  10. Bran- Bran is a complex carb that provides cellular energy and their phytonutrient content prevents some forms of cancer.
